Etymology: From prae- (“‘before’”) + -hendo (used only in comp.); akin to Ancient Greek χανδάνειν (chandanīn) "to hold, contain", and English get.

Usage: I lay hold of, seize, grasp, arrest - used in relation to understanding, insight, knowledge, information.
